Mjøsmuseet


Mjøsmuseet is a museum of cultural history with departments in Gjøvik, Toten and Minnesund. The museums are open during summer. Guided tours during open hours and by appointment. The museum grounds are open year-round (admission free). Genealogy resources are available year-round, but we suggest you make an appointment.

 

 

Gjøvik gård: Historical farm estate in the centre of Gjøvik. The main building was built by the owner of Gjøvik glass factory in 1810, and is surrounded by a beautiful park. Various exhibits, cafe and playground. Open-air concerts Saturdays during summer.

 

Opening hours:

June 7th - August 17th: Saturday-Sunday 12.00-16.00

Guided tours inside the main building takes you through the home of glass factory owner Caspar Kauffeldt (1804-1843)  and the Mjøen family (1861-1956).

Guided tours 13.00 and 14.00 (saturday 15.00).

Eiktunet, Gjøvik: This open-air museum provides a magnificent view of the city of Gjøvik. The museum contains buildings from the period 1650-1850. The grounds are open year-round. Family events during summer.

Stenberg Open-Air Museum, Vestre Toten: In former times the home of the local county governor, this farm estate features an extensive English-style park set in a 19th century cultural landscape. Cafe and exhibition. The museum grounds are open year-round.

 

Opening hours:

May 24th- August 31th : Saturday-Sunday 12.00-16.00. June 25th-August 27th: Wednesdays 12.00-18.00.

Mjøssamlingene at Minnesund: Lake Mjøsas maritime museum features exhibits on flood history, timber floating and boating.

 

Opening hours:

June 7th - August 17th: Saturday-Sunday 14.00-18.00

Opening hours:

Tuesday 12.00-20.00, Wednesday 12.00-18.00, Friday 10.00-14.00.
